Job summary

Caledonian Recruitment Group Ltd is seeking a Mobile Retail Refrigeration Installation Engineer to deliver high-quality refrigeration installations for retail clients across the UK. The role supports store installations, refurbishments, equipment replacements and project rollouts, ensuring safety, quality and timely delivery.

The successful candidate will work with project managers and site teams, installing cabinets, pipework, and controls, and assisting with central systems.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in commercial or retail refrigeration installation.
• Knowledge of refrigeration cabinets, pipework, controls and related equipment.
• F-Gas certification for the work undertaken.
• Ability to read technical drawings, schematics, installation plans and project specifications.
• Full UK driving licence with willingness to travel throughout the UK, including overnight stays when required.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with CO2 transcritical or subcritical systems, hydrocarbon refrigerants or other low-GWP technologies.

Responsibilities

• Install retail refrigeration equipment across stores.
• Install refrigeration pipework, fittings, valves and controls.
• Assist with the installation and integration of remote refrigeration plant and central systems.
• Carry out pressure testing, evacuation, refrigerant charging and commissioning.

Job Specification: Mobile Retail Refrigeration Installation Engineer

Job Purpose

We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mobile Retail Refrigeration Installation Engineer to join our Clients Projects Team, delivering high-quality refrigeration installations across our retail client portfolio. The successful candidate will support new store installations, refurbishments, equipment replacements and project rollouts, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to the required quality standards. The role involves working closely with project managers, clients, site teams and other contractors to deliver projects within agreed timescales while minimising disruption to retail operations.

Key Responsibilities

Refrigeration Installation & Commissioning

• Install retail refrigeration equipment, including multideck cabinets, serve-over counters, freezer cabinets, cold rooms and associated refrigeration systems.
• Install refrigeration pipework, fittings, valves, controls and associated components in accordance with project specifications.
• Assist with the installation and integration of remote refrigeration plant, condensing units and central refrigeration systems.
• Carry out pressure testing, evacuation, refrigerant charging and commissioning within the scope of competence and authorisation.
• Install and configure refrigeration controls, sensors and monitoring equipment as required.
• Complete system start-up checks, identify installation issues and ensure equipment operates in accordance with manufacturer specifications.

Project Delivery

• Work as part of the Clients Projects Team to deliver installations and equipment replacement programmes within agreed timescales.
• Coordinate effectively with project managers, site managers, other trades and client representatives.
• Ensure tools, materials and equipment are available and suitable for each installation.
• Maintain a professional, customer-focused approach while working on client sites and minimise disruption to retail operations.
• Complete project handovers, commissioning records, snagging and remedial works to support successful project completion.

Health, Safety & Compliance

• Follow company health and safety policies, risk assessments, method statements and site-specific procedures.
• Work safely when handling refrigerants, electrical components, heavy equipment and when working at height.
• Comply with applicable F-Gas, refrigerant handling, environmental and electrical safety requirements.
• Use appropriate PPE and ensure tools and equipment are maintained in safe working condition.
• Maintain accurate installation, refrigerant handling and commissioning records, reporting hazards, incidents and unsafe working conditions promptly.

Essential Skills & Qualifications

• Proven experience in commercial or retail refrigeration installation.
• Good technical knowledge of refrigeration cabinets, pipework, controls and associated equipment.
• Relevant refrigerant handling qualifications and appropriate F-Gas certification for the work undertaken.
• Knowledge of refrigeration installation practices, pressure testing, evacuation and commissioning procedures.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, installation plans and project specifications.
• Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the UK, including overnight stays when required.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a project team.
• Experience with CO₂ transcritical or subcritical systems, hydrocarbon refrigerants or other low-GWP technologies.

Desirable Skills & Experience

• Experience working on supermarket, convenience store and multi-site retail refrigeration projects.
• Experience delivering new store installations, refurbishments, refrigeration replacements and project rollouts.
• Relevant electrical qualifications or experience with refrigeration controls and electrical connections, within the scope of competence.
• Manufacturer-specific training on refrigeration equipment and controls.
• Experience working to strict project programmes, including out-of-hours retail installations.
• Relevant site safety training, such as IPAF, PASMA and manual handling.
