The Vacancy
Job Purpose:
This is a key position, responsible for planned and reactive maintenance across multiple site locations. You will be the primary contact for all service and maintenance tasks within your assigned sites. Your role involves maintaining, servicing, and repairing refrigeration equipment in customer locations, as well as assisting with HVAC systems containing refrigeration circuits. The engineering team provides 24-hour service coverage throughout the year, utilizing planned and extended working hours, including standby rota participation.
Key Accountabilities:
- Prioritize maintenance and repair work to meet specified timescales and response requirements.
- Identify faults that cannot be repaired on-site, promptly inform the Line Manager, and recommend suitable replacements.
- Ensure PPM schedules are completed on time and all paperwork is accurately filled out according to procedures.
- Maintain up-to-date technical and compliance documentation.
- Participate in out-of-hours standby rotations and communicate any cover requirements due to holidays or unforeseen circumstances to the line manager.
- Stay informed about relevant regulations and codes of practice.
- Order and install parts or components following company procedures.
- Notify the helpdesk upon task completion regarding procedural conditions.
- Advise GSMs of any issues affecting store operations and foster good relationships with all GSMs.
- Respond promptly to service requests, assess job requirements, and carry out necessary repairs.
- Conduct surveys and complete reports as directed by the refrigeration supervisor/RFM.
- Complete all work to high standards efficiently and cost-effectively, complying with health and safety policies.
- Complete tasks within designated timeframes to satisfy company and client expectations.
- Communicate effectively through written and verbal means, including report writing and record keeping.
- Attend training sessions as needed to keep skills current with technical and business developments.
- Complete mandatory online training modules.
- Comply with health and safety legislation and policies at all times.
- Work collaboratively with colleagues to maintain quality standards.
- Represent the company professionally and develop good working relationships with clients and colleagues.
- Follow any other reasonable instructions from management.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Time-served apprenticeship with relevant NVQ/C&G Refrigeration qualification.
- Approved training program completion.
- Refrigerant handling certification (C&G 2079 or equivalent).
- Skill card and knowledge of refrigeration, electrical, air conditioning, and mechanical systems.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work at heights and in access equipment.
- Valid full driving license.
- Availability for out-of-hours work.
- Educational qualifications such as GCSEs or equivalent.
- Knowledge of future legislation (e.g., City or others accredited).
- Understanding of BS7671 (IEE 16/17th Edition), BSEN 378 (BS4434), electrical and engineering standards.
