Job summary

Hertfordshire County Council is seeking a Site Manager for the Rickmansworth Recycling Centre. The role oversees day-to-day operations, mentoring a team of operatives and ensuring safe opening/closing, a clean site, and effective waste separation.

You will manage documentation, advise residents on disposal, verify vehicle permits, and operate on-site plant equipment with training provided. There are opportunities to contribute to trial projects and service improvements.

Qualifications

• Has a proven track record of delivering excellent customer service.
• Can confidently advise residents on how to dispose of waste.
• Stays calm under pressure and follows safety procedures.
• Maintains high service standards in all weather conditions.
• Has experience working under prolonged physical effort.
• Can supervise and manage a team of operatives effectively.
• Can act as site First Aider and Fire Marshal (training provided).
• Will operate on-site machinery including the JCB (training provided).

Responsibilities

• Supervise, support and mentor on-site operatives.
• Ensure safe opening and closing of the Recycling Centre.
• Maintain a clean, well-organised site environment.
• Manage site documentation (paper and digital).
• Advise residents on proper waste disposal.
• Check permits for vans and trailers; keep waste streams separated.
• Operate compactors and JCB equipment safely.
• Contribute to service improvements and trials of new waste streams.
