Job summary

Essex County Council is recruiting a Recycling Centre Site Operative for our Chelmsford site. The role is permanent and full-time, based on-site in Chelmsford, with weekend work possible. The position includes a 6% Sunday uplift and access to a broad range of benefits.

You will assist the public, maintain a safe site, supervise waste movements, operate plant machinery, and support administrative tasks as needed.

Qualifications

• Customer-facing experience
• Able to perform manual handling tasks
• Willingness to learn new systems and processes

Responsibilities

• Assist the public with questions, queries or complaints
• Maintain a clean, tidy and risk-free site
• Provide clear instructions to subcontractors/hauliers
• Operate plant machinery and oversee waste movements
• Ensure proper storage of materials for recycling
• Ensure compliance with safety standards
• Support the team with admin tasks
• Be prepared to work at alternative recycling centres when needed
