Job summary

Essex County Council is hiring a Recycling Centre Site Operative for the Braintree site. This permanent, full-time role is based at the recycling centre and may require weekend work. A 6% Sunday uplift is paid for Sunday shifts, plus a range of staff benefits.

You will help the public, maintain a safe site, and operate plant machinery while supporting team operations and occasional shifts at other centres.

Qualifications

• Able to stand and walk for long periods.
• Customer-facing experience required.
• Manual handling tasks.
• Able to read and write basic information.
• Willing to undertake training (First Aid, Plant Operator, Fire Marshall).

Responsibilities

• Assist the public with questions, queries or complaints.
• Keep the site clean, tidy and risk-free.
• Instruct subcontractors/hauliers clearly.
• Operate plant machinery and oversee waste movements.
• Ensure proper storage of materials for recycling.
• Ensure safety standards are followed and site operations run smoothly.
• Assist with administrative tasks as required.
• May be required to work at another Recycling Centre.
