About Waythrough

Waythrough was formed in 2024 following the merger of Humankind and Richmond Fellowship. Together, we’ve created one of the largest mental health and social support charities in England. Every year, we support around 125,000 people through nearly 200 services – and it’s all made possible by our 3,500 brilliant staff and volunteers.

About the role

Are you caring, flexible and motivated, with the ability to build trusting relationships and support people through challenging times? Do you believe that everyone should have the opportunity to develop their skills, confidence and independence? If so, we’d love you to join our team as a Recovery Worker at our Redcar and Cleveland Supported Housing service. Our service provides accommodation and tailored support for adults experiencing mental health difficulties. We work alongside individuals to help them develop the skills and confidence needed to manage their mental health, maintain their tenancy and work towards greater independence. Support is personalised to each individual, recognising their strengths, needs and aspirations. This includes developing coping strategies, managing finances and daily living tasks, accessing relevant services and exploring opportunities for education, volunteering, employment and meaningful activities within the community. As a Recovery Worker, you’ll play an important role in delivering this support, helping people take positive steps towards their recovery and future goals. This is a permanent, part‑time position working 22 hours per week. Working hours are arranged on a rota basis and will include sleepovers, weekend working and on‑call duties. Flexibility and a willingness to work as part of a team are essential.

What You’ll Do
  • Support individuals experiencing mental health difficulties, promoting recovery, wellbeing and independence through person‑centred support.
  • Build trusting and supportive relationships, encouraging individuals to identify and work towards their personal goals.
  • Support people to develop and maintain their tenancy, including budgeting, managing finances and accessing relevant services.
  • Help individuals develop daily living skills, including shopping, laundry, maintaining their home and managing everyday responsibilities.
  • Encourage people to develop coping strategies and a better understanding of their mental health and wellbeing.
  • Promote social inclusion by supporting access to community groups, meaningful activities, education, volunteering and employment opportunities.
  • Work collaboratively with individuals, colleagues and external professionals to ensure support is coordinated and responsive to changing needs.
  • Support individuals to explore move‑on accommodation and take steps towards greater independence.
  • Maintain accurate records, contribute to support planning and follow organisational policies and procedures.
  • Participate in the rota, including sleepovers, weekend working and on‑call duties, helping to ensure appropriate support is available when needed.
To Succeed in This Role
  • You’ll need to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with people from a range of backgrounds.
  • Respond compassionately and without judgement to sensitive and complex situations.
  • Motivate, support and advocate for people using our services.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of mental health challenges and a commitment to supporting individual recovery.
  • Promote choice, dignity, respect and independence.
  • Have good organisational skills, including the ability to maintain accurate records and manage competing priorities.
  • Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Be flexible and willing to undertake sleepovers, weekend working and on‑call duties as part of a rota.
What We Offer
  • 27 days’ annual leave, rising to 32 after 1 year (plus bank holidays)
  • Pension scheme with 4.5% employer contribution, matched up to 6.5%
  • Life assurance (3× annual salary)
  • Enhanced sick pay and family‑friendly pay
  • Birthday leave and the option to buy up to 5 extra days’ annual leave
  • Professional fee reimbursement for relevant qualifications
  • 24/7 online GP access and Employee Assistance Programme
  • Recognition and long service awards via our Way to Go and Aspirations portals
  • £500 Recommend a Friend bonus
  • Cycle to Work scheme and Credit Union membership
  • Discounts via Blue Light Card, Charity Discounts, Extras and Tickets for Good
  • Free will writing service and wellbeing initiatives throughout the year

We tackle poverty and disadvantage in communities, through mental health, drug and alcohol, housing and related support.
