Job summary

Affidea UK & Ireland in Wimbledon is seeking a Recovery Nurse Practitioner to join our Theatres team. You will provide exemplary post-anaesthetic care as patients recover from theatre and endoscopy procedures, assessing and stabilising them until discharge or transfer.

The role offers a unique opportunity to shape the recovery service at the opening of our new clinic, working within a perioperative pathway with a focus on patient-centred care and continuous learning.

Qualifications

• Registered Nurse with active NMC registration.
• Recent clinical experience in an acute healthcare environment, including recovery/PACU.
• Strong understanding of anaesthetic recovery, airway management and post-operative complications.

Located in the Wimbledon Quarter Shopping Centre in Southwest London, our first UK clinic is a 33,000 sq ft ambulatory Clinic bringing together advanced diagnostics, outpatient services and theatres under one roof. Services include a Private GP, an Express Care minor injuries unit, consultant and treatment rooms, multimodality advanced diagnostic imaging (3T MRI, 1.5T MRI, CT, X-Ray and DEXA), surgical theatres and inpatient ward facilities.

About The Role

We are looking to recruit a Recovery Nurse Practitioner to join our Theatres team, with a competitive salary range on offer depending on experience. You'll provide exemplary post-anaesthetic care to patients as they come through recovery from our theatres and endoscopy suite, assessing, planning, implementing and evaluating individualised care as patients regain consciousness and stabilise following their procedure.

What will the duties include?

• Providing skilled, individualised post-anaesthetic care to patients recovering from surgical and endoscopy procedures.
• Assessing patients' airway, breathing, circulation, conscious level and pain on arrival in recovery, and continuously monitoring and responding to their condition.
• Recognising and appropriately responding to urgent and emergency situations, escalating to the anaesthetist or surgical team without delay.
• Managing patients' pain, nausea and post-operative symptoms in line with agreed protocols.
• Applying recognised discharge criteria to determine patients' readiness for transfer to the ward or discharge home.
• Working collaboratively with the anaesthetic, surgical and ward teams to ensure a safe, well-coordinated perioperative pathway.
• Providing clear information and reassurance to patients and their families throughout the recovery process.
• Maintaining accurate and timely documentation of patient assessment, care and outcomes.
• Assisting in the smooth day-to-day organisation and running of the recovery area.
• Supporting the training, development and supervision of junior colleagues and students.
• Adhering to infection prevention and control, health and safety, and clinical governance standards at all times.
