Job summary

Veritas Education is recruiting a Reception Teaching Assistant (Level 2+) for a Lancaster primary school from September 2026 to support the new Reception intake and establish strong early learning foundations.

The role involves assisting the class teacher and Early Years team to create a positive, engaging learning environment, with flexibility to cover across activities and learning spaces throughout the year.

Qualifications

  • Hold a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification as a minimum.
  • Have previous experience working within an Early Years or primary school setting.
  • Possess a strong knowledge of phonics programmes and early reading development.
  • Have experience supporting pupils within whole-class, group and one-to-one settings.

Responsibilities

  • Whole-class support within the Reception classroom.
  • Small group intervention sessions.

Reception Teaching Assistant (Level 2+) - Lancaster Primary School

Location: Lancaster, Lancashire

Start Date: September 2026

Contract: Full Time (Full Academic Year)

Working Hours: 8:40am - 3:10pm, Monday to Friday

Veritas Education is delighted to be recruiting on behalf of a friendly and nurturing primary school in Lancaster for a committed Reception Teaching Assistant to join their Early Years team from September 2026.

This full-time position will run for the entire academic year and will focus on supporting the school's new Reception intake, helping children settle into school life and develop the foundations for future learning.

The Role

As a Reception Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting children during their first year of school. Working closely with the class teacher and wider Early Years team, you will help create a positive, engaging, and stimulating learning environment.

The school operates a collaborative approach to support staff, meaning you will be expected to work flexibly across:

  • Whole-class support within the Reception classroom
  • Small group intervention sessions
  • One-to-one support where required
  • Phonics sessions and early literacy development
  • Indoor and outdoor learning activities
  • Supporting children's social, emotional, and academic progress
Requirements
  • Hold a Level 2 Teaching Assistant qualification as a minimum
  • Have previous experience working within an Early Years or primary school setting
  • Possess a strong knowledge of phonics programmes and early reading development
  • Have experience supporting pupils within whole-class, group and one-to-one settings
  • Be patient, enthusiastic and nurturing in their approach
  • Demonstrate excellent communication and teamwork skills
