Job summary

Aylestone School is seeking a Librarian and Intervention Support to join our staff from September 2026. This part-time role (25 hours per week, 8:30am–2:00pm, includes a 30-minute unpaid break) offers an opportunity to enhance pupils' literacy development within a welcoming school library.

Qualifications

• Experience as a teacher or Teaching Assistant in a mainstream school or similar setting.
• Strong interest in literacy, reading and supporting pupils’ learning.
• Organised, proactive and confident in managing resources and library systems.
• Positive team player with a flexible and calm approach.
• Committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils’ literacy development and reading for pleasure across the school.
• Manage the daily operation of the school library, ensuring it is welcoming, well-organised and purposeful learning environment.
• Provide targeted literacy support to individuals and small groups, including pupils with special educational needs.
• Promote a positive reading culture through events such as book fairs, reading initiatives and pupil librarian programmes.
• Support teaching and learning more widely as a student services team worker both in and beyond the classroom when required.
