Job summary

IPS Group Limited in Wakefield is seeking a Financial Director to lead the finance function, reporting to the owners and senior management. This hands-on FD will balance detailed financial control with strategic commercial input to help shape the business's future direction.

You will drive cash flow management, budgeting and forecasting, develop the finance team as the business grows, and explore AI initiatives to improve efficiency and decision making within the construction supply chain.

Qualifications

• Qualified accountant with proven FD level experience.
• Hands-on, commercially minded finance leader close to operations.
• Strong strategic and analytical skills; able to influence owners and management.
• Experience in construction sector or logistics/distribution is advantageous.

Financial Director

A privately owned £30m turnover business based in Wakefield, supplying into the construction sector, is looking to appoint a Finance Director.

This is a hands‑on FD role, working closely with the owners and senior management team to provide both strong financial leadership and commercial input. The successful candidate will be comfortable getting into the detail while also taking a strategic view of the business and helping shape its future direction.

Key responsibilities

• Take overall responsibility for the finance function, ensuring strong financial control and reporting.
• Provide commercial insight to support business performance, profitability and growth.
• Work closely with the owners and senior management team on strategic decision‑making.
• Drive improvements across finance processes, systems and reporting.
• Support the business in identifying and implementing AI initiatives and new technology to improve efficiency and decision‑making.

The ideal candidate

• Qualified accountant with proven experience at FD level.
• A hands‑on, commercially minded finance leader who enjoys being close to the operation.
• Strong strategic and analytical skills, with the ability to work effectively with business owners.
• Experience within a business supplying into the construction sector would be advantageous.
• Alternatively, experience within logistics, distribution or a related operational environment would be relevant.
• Comfortable embracing new technology and supporting the introduction of AI across the business.
• A confident communicator who can influence decision‑making and operate as a key member of the senior management team.
