Job summary

Westray Recruitment Consultants are supporting a leading UK food manufacturer to recruit Food Production Operatives for a busy production environment.

We are looking for reliable, punctual and flexible candidates who can work 12-hour day and night shifts. You will handle packing, quality checks and keep the line running smoothly in a hygienic setting. Ongoing shifts and development opportunities are available.

Responsibilities

• Work on a fast-paced food production or packing line.
• Prepare, handle, pack and check food products.
• Ensure products meet quality and specification standards.
• Follow standard operating procedures and production instructions.
• Carry out production and quality checks accurately.
• Monitor ingredients, stock levels and waste.
• Assist with basic machine operating duties when required.
• Keep workstations clean, organised and hygienic.
• Report quality, machinery or safety concerns to the supervisor.

Job description

• £12.71 per hour for both day and night shifts
• 12-hour shifts: 7:00am-7:00pm or 7:00pm-7:00am
• We aim to offer at least three shifts per week, with the potential for additional shifts depending on production requirements

SHIFT AVAILABILITY

This is a flexible temporary contract where shifts are provided in line with production requirements.

Shift availability may be confirmed at short notice, including:

• Same-day confirmation for a night shift
• Confirmation for the following day's day shift

Candidates must therefore be flexible and available to accept shifts at short notice. Although hours cannot be guaranteed, we aim to provide successful candidates with at least three shifts per week, and additional shifts may be available during busier periods.

THE ROLE

As a Food Production Operative, your responsibilities will include:

• Working on a fast-paced food production or packing line
• Preparing, handling, packing and checking food products
• Ensuring products meet required quality and specification standards
• Following standard operating procedures and production instructions
• Completing production and quality checks accurately
• Monitoring ingredients, stock levels and waste within your working area
• Carrying out basic machine operating duties where required
• Keeping workstations clean, organised and hygienic
• Following strict food hygiene, health and safety, and quality procedures
• Working effectively with colleagues to achieve daily production targets
• Reporting any quality, machinery or safety concerns to the relevant supervisor

THE PERSON

The successful candidate will:

• Be reliable, punctual and flexible regarding shift availability
• Be comfortable receiving shifts at short notice
• Be able to work 12-hour day and night shifts
• Be comfortable working in a fast-paced and repetitive production environment
• Have excellent attention to detail and a strong awareness of hygiene
• Be able to follow instructions and work safely at all times
• Have a positive attitude and work well as part of a team
• Be physically capable of standing for extended periods and completing manual handling duties

Previous food production, manufacturing, packing or FMCG experience would be advantageous, although full training may be provided to candidates who demonstrate the right attitude, reliability and willingness to learn.
