Registered Mental Health Nurse (RMHN) Or (RLDN)

Job Summary: The Registered Nurse provides comprehensive nursing care for patients in a 24-hour setting. The nurse is responsible for assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating the care of patients with psychiatric disorders. This includes working closely with multidisciplinary teams, including psychiatrists, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals, to ensure the highest standard of care and support for patients whilst in hospital. Key Responsibilities: Patient Care: Perform nursing assessments, including physical and mental health evaluations. Develop and implement individualized care plans based on patient needs. Administer medications and treatments according to established protocols. Monitor patients for changes in behaviour, mood, and health conditions. Provide support to patients in managing psychiatric symptoms and coping with emotional distress. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with the interdisciplinary treatment team to plan and evaluate patient care. Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff regarding patient progress and care goals. Participate in case conferences, staff meetings, and other clinical discussions. Crisis Management and Support: Respond to behavioural crises, including de-escalation of aggressive or distressed patients. Provide immediate interventions in acute psychiatric emergencies, ensuring patient and staff safety. Monitor and ensure the safety of the unit, ensuring adherence to hospital policies and regulations. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records in accordance with hospital and legal standards. Document observations, interventions, and patient responses in a clear and concise manner. Report significant changes in patient conditions to the appropriate healthcare professionals. Patient Education and Support: Provide education to patients and their families regarding mental health disorders, treatment options, and coping strategies. Encourage patient participation in treatment and therapy plans, fostering a sense of autonomy and responsibility for their health. Compliance and Safety: Adhere to hospital protocols, state and federal regulations, and professional nursing standards. Follow infection control procedures and maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment. Participate in training and development programs to ensure current knowledge of mental health nursing practices. Qualifications: Education: Relevant Nursing degree/qualification Experience: Prior experience in psychiatric nursing or mental health settings preferred but not required. Skills and Competencies: Strong understanding of mental health conditions and treatment modalities. Excellent communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients, families, and interdisciplinary team members. Ability to handle stressful situations and respond appropriately to behavioural emergencies. Knowledge of psychiatric medications, therapeutic techniques, and patient management strategies. Compassionate, patient-centred approach to care, with a strong focus on patient safety and dignity. Working Hours: Full-time position working shifts, including nights and weekends.
