Randstad CPE is partnering with a family-owned main contractor to recruit a Design Manager for a £15m Tidworth project. You will lead design teams, coordinate with clients and supply chain, and ensure schemes are buildable, compliant, and delivered on schedule.

This role requires strong communication, leadership, and knowledge of UK Building Regulations and Planning Frameworks. A Chartered pathway is supported, with opportunities across education, healthcare, and commercial sectors.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Coordinator in a UK regional main contractor.
• Strong knowledge of UK Building Regulations, Planning Frameworks, and Building Safety legislation.
• Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects (£2m–£25m+).
• Excellent leadership and conflict-resolution skills.
• Chartered status or pursuing chartership preferred.

• Pre-Construction & Tendering: Review employer's requirements, assess design risks, propose VE solutions, assist with tenders.
• Design Coordination: Lead external design consultants, ensure alignment with scope, budget, and procurement program.
• Site Delivery & Compliance: Work with site manager and subcontractors to resolve RFIs, monitor buildability, ensure Building Regulations compliance.
• Information Release Management: Maintain the Design Release Program to keep procurement and construction on track.
• Design Reviews: Chair design meetings, coordinate BIM models and resolve clashes prior to site execution.

Design Manager to join the Swindon team and drive project success from pre-construction through to site completion.

The Role

As a Design Manager, you will be the core link between clients, external design teams, supply chain, and project delivery managers. You will take ownership of the design process, ensuring all schemes are buildable, cost-effective, compliant with statutory requirements, and delivered on schedule.

The scheme is a £15 million project at Tidworth and is currently in a PCSA.

Key Responsibilities

Pre-Construction & Tendering: Review employer's requirements, assess design risks, propose value engineering solutions, and assist with technical submissions during tenders.

Design Coordination: Lead and manage external design consultants, ensuring their deliverables align with the project scope, budget, and procurement program.

Site Delivery & Compliance: Work closely with the site project manager and package subcontractors to resolve design queries (RFIs), monitor buildability, and ensure compliance with Building Regulations, Planning Conditions, and BREEAM/sustainability targets.

Information Release Management: Maintain and manage the Design Release Program (DRP) to keep procurement and construction on track.

Design Reviews: Chair regular design team meetings, coordinate BIM models (where applicable), and resolve clashes prior to site execution.

About You

Thay are looking for someone who combines technical expertise with outstanding communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

Proven experience as a Design Manager or Senior Design Coordinator within a UK regional main contractor (or an architectural/engineering background looking to step into contractor-side design management).

Strong knowledge of current UK Building Regulations, Planning Frameworks, and Building Safety legislation.

Experience managing multi-disciplinary projects across commercial, healthcare, or education sectors (values typically £2m to £25m+).

Excellent leadership and conflict-resolution skills to keep external consultant teams accountable and motivated.

HNC/HND or Degree qualified in a relevant discipline (Construction Management, Architecture, Civil Engineering, or similar).
