Job summary

UKME in Newmarket is seeking an Animal Carer to join our dedicated welfare team. You will provide day-to-day care for dogs, cats, rabbits and other animals, ensuring comfort and good health at all times.

Responsibilities include feeding, grooming, exercising, monitoring health, maintaining hygiene, supervising an Assistant Animal Carer, and liaising with the Housekeeping Supervisor. A valid UK driving licence and proficiency with MS Office are preferred.

Qualifications

  • Experience in animal care or welfare is preferred.
  • Ability to work to high animal welfare standards.
  • Good written and verbal communication with team

  • Feed animals, including dogs, cats and rabbits, with correct food and portions.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all habitats.
  • Regularly clean bowls, blankets and beds for animal comfort.
  • Exercise and play with the animals, especially dogs.
  • Bathe, brush and groom animals to keep them clean and presentable.
  • Monitor animals for signs of injury or illness and arrange veterinary care.
  • Maintain stock levels of supplies and liaise with suppliers.
  • Supervise the Assistant Animal Carer and report to the Housekeeping Supervisor.

Join our dedicated team as an Animal Carer and play an essential role in safeguarding the health, welfare, and happiness of the animals in our care. You will provide attentive day-to-day care for dogs, cats, rabbits, and other animals, ensuring they are comfortable, healthy, and well cared for at all times.

The Role

As an Animal Carer, you will be responsible for feeding, exercising, grooming, and monitoring the animals, while maintaining excellent cleanliness and hygiene standards across their indoor and outdoor habitats. You will also oversee the Assistant Animal Carer, manage essential supplies, and communicate relevant updates to the Housekeeping Supervisor or Manager.

Key Responsibilities
  • Feed animals, including dogs, cats, and rabbits, with the correct food and quantities.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all indoor and outdoor cages and habitats.
  • Clean food and water bowls, blankets, beds, and other animal-care items regularly.
  • Exercise and play with the animals regularly, with particular attention to the dogs.
  • Bathe, brush, and groom animals to ensure they are clean and presentable.
  • Monitor animals for signs of injury or illness, arrange veterinary attention promptly, and administer treatments as instructed.
  • Maintain stock levels of animal-related supplies and liaise with local pet shops and suppliers.
  • Supervise the Assistant Animal Carer and communicate relevant information to the Housekeeping Supervisor or Manager.

  • Has proven experience in a similar role working with animals.
  • Holds a relevant animal care qualification.
  • Has a full, valid UK driving licence.
  • Is proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Is attentive, dependable, and committed to maintaining excellent animal welfare standards.
