Job summary

Thames Water is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician at our Sewage Pumping Site in Newbury, RG14 2AD. You will inspect, maintain, fault-diagnose, test, install and repair electrical equipment, working with minimal supervision to keep sites operational and safe.

Base location is Newbury with a 38-hour week (Mon-Fri) and potential standby/overtime. You will contribute to safety, customer service, and the company’s environmental goals, supporting apprentices and colleagues along the way.

Qualifications

• Time-served apprenticeship or NVQ/C&G Level 3 in electrical engineering.
• 18th Edition preferred; training can be provided.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and meet standards.

Responsibilities

• Inspect, maintain, fault-diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical equipment and associated systems.
• Respond to alarms and faults; perform reactive and planned maintenance.
• Record asset information and raise risks or changes for resolution as required.
• Provide technical advice and support, coaching, and development to staff including apprentices.

Job description

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician based at our Sewage Pumping Site in Newbury, RG14 2AD.

As a successful candidate, you will be using your electrical knowledge as well as your experience to inspect, maintain, fault-diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment, in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision, allowing us to ensure that all of our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers.

What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Technician.

• Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of yourself, colleagues, contractors, and visitors is always my top priority by always displaying the correct behaviours by complying with the Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.
• Undertake both reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault-finding to identify issues, fix these or escape; planned maintenance of plant and equipment daily, installing new plant and equipment as required in line with current Standards and Regulations.
• Record work and asset information to improve business performance, along with identifying possible future risks and recommending changes in the course of your day-to-day work and to raise these for resolution as required.
• Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate, with up-to-date technical knowledge, along with coaching, training and developing staff under their supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
• Delivering excellent customer experience and positively contributing to overall customer satisfaction. Interacting with all our customers (internal & external) in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful, and polite manner.

Base Location: London Road (Newbury) SPS, Faraday Road, Newbury, RG14 2AD

Working pattern: 38 hours per week, Monday – Friday, 7:30 am – 3:36 pm plus Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase the earning potential by up to a further £8,000-£10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

All PPE, tools, plus a van and fuel card are provided.

What you should bring to the role:

To thrive in this role, the essential criteria you’ll need are:

• You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.
• 18th Edition preferred, but training can be provided.
• A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escape if required.
• An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.
• Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
• Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and meet standards.
• Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
• Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback, and supporting others' development.
• Full UK driving licence.
