Job summary

Cygnet Aspen Clinic and House seek a fully GMC registered Specialty Doctor (Maternity Cover) for up to 6 months FTC to provide psychiatric care within female gender-specific rehabilitation services.

Role includes support from a Consultant Psychiatrist and a multidisciplinary team, with opportunities to develop toward Consultant level and MRCPsych progression.

Qualifications

• Fully GMC registered and MBBS (or equivalent) qualified.
• Experienced and knowledgeable in psychiatry.
• Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act 2005.
• First-rate communicator who can interview, assess and treat patients and write clear medical notes.
• Committed to continuing professional development.
• Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
• MRCPsych or equivalent membership.

Responsibilities

• Provide routine medical and psychiatric care including initial clerking and mental state examination of newly admitted patients.
• Assess, investigate, diagnose and treat inpatients under consultant supervision.
• Maintain communication with ward staff and other agencies as required.
• Attend weekly ward rounds and multidisciplinary meetings (CPA, Tribunal, Section 117).
• Maintain full medical and psychiatric records and prepare discharge summaries.
• Attend mandatory training (BLS, ILS, PMVA, infection control, H&S).
• Communicate with patients, relatives, staff and directors; maintain reports.
• Participate in the duty doctor on-call rota as region requires.

We are seeking an experienced full-time Speciality Doctor, to join us for up to 6 months, who will work at Cygnet Aspen Clinic and House and provide psychiatric care within our gender specific female mental health rehabilitation services

You will be fully involved as a practising psychiatrist - while being fully supported by a Consultant Psychiatrist and first-class multidisciplinary team.

Cygnet Aspen Clinic is a female Personality Disorder Rehabilitation service which can support up to 16 patients. It aims to help patients reduce their risk of self-harm and become more independent in their living skills.

Cygnet Aspen House is a female Mental Health Rehabilitation service which can support up to 20 patients.

Main duties and Responsibilities…

• Provide routine medical and psychiatric support including initial clerking and mental state examination of newly admitted patients
• Carry out the assessment, appropriate investigation, diagnosis and treatment under Consultant supervision of inpatients of the unit.
• Maintain good communication with ward nursing staff, mental health professionals and other agencies as required
• Participate in weekly ward rounds and other multidisciplinary meetings, including CPA, Tribunal hearings & Section 117 meetings
• Maintenance of full records of medical and psychiatric assessments and interventions
• Preparing discharge summaries in line with company policies and guidelines
• Attending all mandatory training e.g. BLS, ILS, Breakaway training/PMVA training, Moving and Transferring, Infection Control, H&S.
• Communicating effectively through regular contact with patients, relatives, staff, directors, and any other concerned bodies; maintaining appropriate reports.
• Participating in the duty doctor on call rota dependent on the needs of the region

This programme will help you develop the skills you need to progress to Consultant level – and you’ll rotate within wards/services to gain valuable experience across various subspecialties.

You’ll also have an educational supervisor to review your progress and oversee your development – and you’ll receive support with MRCPsych exams.
