Job summary

Care South is seeking a capable Kitchen Assistant at Maiden Castle House Care Home in Dorchester. You will support the Chef with preparing nutritious meals and beverages for residents, ensuring dietary needs are met and safety regulations are followed. The role involves helping residents during mealtimes and maintaining clean, hygienic kitchen and dining areas.

We value caring and respectful attitudes, good communication and teamwork. Shifts run between 08:30 and 19:00 with alternate weekends.

Qualifications

• Must be 18 years or older.
• Experience in care or catering is helpful but not essential.
• Able to support residents during mealtimes.
• Willingness to work flexible shifts between 08:30 and 19:00, including alternate weekends.
• Good communication and teamwork.

Responsibilities

• Support the Chef and kitchen team with basic preparation of meals, snacks and drinks.
• Follow all food safety and health & safety regulations.
• Assist residents to enjoy their dining experience with every meal.
• Keep kitchen and dining areas clean and hygienic.
• Wash cooking appliances and crockery; sanitise food prep areas.

Location: Maiden Castle House Care Home, 12-14 Gloucester Rd, Dorchester DT1 2NJ

Pay: £12.85 per hour

Shift Pattern: Candidates must be flexible to work shifts between 08:30 and 19:00, including alternate weekends

Who are we looking for and what you’ll bring to the role:

• Someone who is happy and confident working within a busy, fast-paced kitchen environment.
• Previous experience in a care or catering setting is helpful but not essential.
• Someone with the ability to support our residents during mealtimes.
• A caring and respectful attitude towards our residents and the ability to support them during mealtimes.
• Good communication and teamwork skills

What you will be doing:

• Supporting the Chef and kitchen team with the basic preparation of fresh and nutritious meals, snacks and drinks for our residents ensuring that their dietary needs are met.
• Following all food safety and health & safety regulations.
• Supporting residents to enjoy their dining experience with every meal.
• Ensuring kitchen and dining room areas are kept clean and hygienic.
• Washing cooking appliances and crockery – sanitising all food preparation areas.
