Job summary

Scottish Borders Council is seeking an Early Years Practitioner to join Coldstream Primary School's Early Learning and Childcare (ELC) team on a temporary basis until 01 July 2027. The role supports high quality learning experiences for 2- to 5-year-olds in a busy setting.

Applicants should have an HNC in Childhood Practice/Childcare & Education and must obtain GTCS registration within 3 months of appointment; interviews are scheduled for 19 October 2026.

Qualifications

• HNC in Childhood Practice/Childcare & Education required.
• GTCS registration must be obtained within 3 months of appointment and maintained throughout employment.

Responsibilities

• Be an active and involved member of the ELC team to provide high-quality learning experiences for 2–5 year-olds in a busy setting.
• Support development across the Early Learning and Childcare provisions and contribute to the development journey of the learners.

Role Purpose

We are looking for a friendly, nurturing, flexible person to be an active and involved member of our ELC team. We have a large busy ELC with 36 learners from age 2-5 years. Every child is a valued and unique member of our community and we are looking for a new team member to join us on our development journey as we strive to provide high quality experiences for all our wonderful learners.

At least one of the following qualifications:

• HNC in Childhood Practice/Childcare & Education

All successful applicants for early learning and childcare posts will be required to hold full registration with GTCS, or be able to obtain full registration with the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) within 3 months of appointment and maintain registration throughout the period of employment.
