Job summary

Thames Water is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician based at our Chieveley Sewage Treatment Works. You will inspect, maintain, fault-diagnose, test, install, modify or repair mechanical and electrical plant equipment with minimal supervision to keep sites operational and safe.

Working 38 hours per week (Mon-Fri, 7:30-3:36) with standby, overtime potential and a generous benefits package including a pension, generous leave and family leave provisions.

Qualifications

  • Time-served apprentice or equivalent with significant mechanical/electrical experience.
  • 18th Edition wiring regulations preferred (training available).
  • Able to identify issues and provide effective solutions; good communication with staff and contractors.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect, maintain, fault-diagnose, test, install, modify or repair electrical and mechanical plant and equipment.
  • Undertake reactive and planned maintenance; respond to alarms and faults.
  • Record asset information to improve performance and escalate risks when needed.
  • Provide technical advice and coach staff including apprentices.
  • Deliver excellent customer experience and professional interactions with internal and external customers.

Job description

Electrical Technician

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to be based at our Chieveley sewage treatment works, RG20 8TY.

As a successful candidate, you will be using your electrical knowledge as well as your experience to inspect, maintain, fault-diagnose, test, install, modify or repair as appropriate, mechanical plant and associated electrical equipment, in a safe, efficient, timely and effective manner with minimum supervision, allowing us to ensure that all of our sites remain operational for the benefit of our customers.

This is an excellent opportunity to make a real difference to Thames Water's environmental impact, and you will be actively helping to reduce pollution from our sites.

What you’ll be doing as the Electrical Technician.
  • Ensuring the health, safety and well-being of yourself, colleagues, contractors, and visitors is always my top priority by always displaying the correct behaviours by complying with the Health and Safety at Work regulations and Thames Water’s Health and Safety guidelines.
  • Undertake both reactive and planned maintenance, responding to alarms and fault-finding to identify issues, fix these or escalation; planned maintenance of plant and equipment daily, installing new plant and equipment as required in line with current Standards and Regulations.
  • Record work and asset information to improve business performance, along with identifying possible future risks and recommending changes in the course of your day-to-day work, and to raise these for resolution as required.
  • Provide specialist technical advice where appropriate, with up-to-date technical knowledge, along with coaching, training and developing staff under their supervision, including the apprenticeship programme.
  • Delivering excellent customer experience and positively contributing to overall customer satisfaction. Interacting with all our customers (internal & external) in a timely, professional, efficient, respectful, and polite manner.

Base Location: Chieveley STW, School Road, Chieveley, Newbury, RG20 8TY

38 hours per week, Monday - Friday. 7:30 am - 3:36 pm plus Standby rota payments & Overtime opportunities can increase the earning potential by up to a further £8,000 - £10,000 per annum upon completion of essential company training.

All PPE, tools, plus the provision of a Van when on duty and on call.

What you should bring to the role
  • You should be a time-served apprentice with significant experience in mechanical/electrical systems or with NVQ or C&G level 3 in electrical engineering.
  • 18th Edition preferred, but training can be given.
  • A problem solver, able to identify potential issues and implement solutions, or escalating if required.
  • An excellent communicator, providing technical expertise to Internal and External staff and contractors.
  • Resilient, adapting to the pressures of work and working in a constantly changing environment.
  • Ability to work with minimum supervision, under own initiative to design and standards.
  • Knowledge and awareness of Health and Safety issues relevant to the industry.
  • Team player who can work in many different teams, showing respect for others, providing helpful feedback and supporting the development of others.
  • Full UK driving licence.
