Job summary

Countryside Jobs Service is seeking a Countryside Officer to join the team managing Cannock Chase Country Park, a 1,300ha landscape of heath and woodland with rich wildlife and historic connections.

You will lead stewardship projects, check visitor safety, and oversee volunteers and contractors, with varied duties from tree work to SSSI assent applications and coordinating volunteer work parties.

Job description

A rare opportunity to join the team managing Cannock Chase Country Park, 1,300ha of heath and woodland. Most of the land is SSSI and SAC and in Higher-Level Stewardship Agreement. A wealth of wildlife lives here and there is fascinating military history connected to the site. Millions of visitors enjoy spending time here and a small herd of cows join us each summer.

Countryside Officers lead on projects including stewardship delivery, check the site is in safe condition for visitors and ensure remedial work is completed. Achieving these work areas is carried out by a mixture of hands-on work, leading volunteers and contractor management.

No two days are the same. One day you will be removing dangerous trees, the next managing contractors, applying for SSSI assent or running a volunteer workparty.
