University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust is delighted to offer a fantastic opportunity to work with us.

Please see below for detailed job description of the role.

Please note, this role is primarily based at the Basingstoke Radiotherapy Satellite Centre, with occasional days required at UHS.

We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Radiotherapy Clinical Specialist to provide expert clinical leadership in the planning and delivery of high-quality radiotherapy treatments.

We are seeking a proactive and innovative practitioner with a passion for delivering outstanding cancer care.

The candidate should have the ability to demonstrate clinical expertise, sound decision-making, and the ability to lead change while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, quality, and compassionate care.

The successful candidate will play a key role in advancing patient care, supporting service development, and promoting excellence in radiotherapy practice.

Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the Clinical Specialist will undertake various treatment planning and delivery, contribute to the implementation of new technologies and techniques, and provide specialist advice to patients, colleagues, and stakeholders. They will support quality assurance, clinical governance, education, research, and continuous service improvement initiatives.

Across both UHS and Basingstoke Satellite Centre, we have a large and very friendly team of radiographers (over 80 clinical radiographers, advanced practitioners and assistants) delivering high-quality radiotherapy treatment to over 3,500 cancer patients each year.

We support flexible working and will consider requests considering the needs of the service. UHS employees can access a range of NHS discounts, are entitled to a minimum of 35 days' paid holiday (pro rata), and we offer a generous pension scheme.

At Basingstoke, we have 1 Elekta Evo Linear Accelerator (with AlignRT allowing surface-guided set-up and tracking) and 1 planning CT scanner, where the team are involved at every step of the radiotherapy pathway from planning to treatment for breast, prostate and palliative patients. Combined, we are the largest radiotherapy centre on the south coast.

Southampton comprises 6 Elekta Linear Accelerators (3 with AlignRT allowing thermal and surface-guided set-up and tracking, and 3 with ExacTrac imaging, Hexapod 6DF couches and FFF), 1 orthovoltage machine, 2 planning CT scanners (with 4D capability) and a full brachytherapy service.

  • The Clinical Specialist in radiotherapy will have developed expertise to be able to function at the forefront of professional practice. Detailed application of knowledge and understanding of how research informs practice are required.
  • To use clinical knowledge to engage appropriate interventions, when necessary, along the treatment pathway.
  • To promote high professional standards, providing effective team leadership and support, ensuring regard for relevant legal, ethical and professional frameworks.
  • Evidence of working at a senior level within a Radiotherapy Department

We believe that using technology wisely shows strong time management and commitment to innovation. However, personalising your recruitment application to highlight your unique skills and experiences is crucial. Relying too heavily on generic, AI-generated content instead of drawing from your own strengths and accomplishments may lead to your application being rejected if multiple candidates present identical or similar information.
