Job summary

ESSENTIAL EMPLOYMENT LTD is seeking an Environmental Protection Officer for a full-time temporary contract in Barnstaple. The role is hybrid with some office and field-based work, requiring access to your own vehicle.

You will conduct reactive and proactive interventions, support staff, collaborate with agencies, and participate in enforcement and joint projects. On-call coverage outside normal hours may be required.

• Supervise contractors engaged by the service and collaborate on joint projects and ways of working.

Possible some hybrid subject to agreement.

You will need access to your own vehicle andthey will agree at interview the arrangements with regard to days in the office and WFH

• You will conduct re-active and pro-active interventions (‘interventions’ refers to the provision of advice, inspections, investigations, audits, surveillance and other monitoring/survey activity, and the public health and environmental impact assessment of proposed development or applications for licences/permitted processes).
• You will undertake initiatives to bring about environmental compliance without the need for enforcement, such as by participating in business or consumer education programmes or by working with businesses on accreditation schemes.
• You will carry out initiatives to promote the Clientand the service.
• You will support staff training and peer reviews.
• You will be appointed to act or speak on behalf of the service on:
• Project teams.
• Specialist sub-groups.
• Multi-agency task teams.
• You will supervise contractors who are engaged by the service.
• You will collaborate with other agencies and organisations and, with colleagues across the Client to carry out joined up consistent enforcement interventions (e.g. with Planning, Building Control, the ASB Hub, Housing Benefits) and to develop and improve joint projects and ways of working.
• You will support the service in meeting its on-call/emergency responsibilities by providing advice by telephone and on-call cover outside of your normal working hours.

This is a full time role on atemporary contract basis
