Job summary

GI Group is recruiting for a pharmaceutical cleaning role in a 24/7 operation. The successful candidate will clean Grade C rooms and related areas, following approved SOPs and COSHH assessments to ensure sterile product safety.

Responsibilities include handling detergents, executing shutdown and reinstatement cleaning, maintaining segregation between areas, and documenting activities in real time. Training is provided, with emphasis on GMP awareness and safety.

Qualifications

• Must have GCSE Grade C or above in Maths and English.
• Excellent communication skills and a can-do attitude.
• Willing to learn new skills and adapt to GMP/cleanroom environments.

• Prepare and use detergents/disinfectants per validated procedures.
• Execute shutdown and reinstatement cleaning of Grade C areas for maintenance.
• Maintain segregation between Grade C/D areas and manage waste per SOPs.
• Complete records in real time ensuring data integrity and traceability.
• Escalate deviations and assist investigations as required.
• Follow gowning, PPE and personnel flow for Grade C areas.
• Support environmental monitoring and audits as needed.
• Work rotating 24/7 shifts to cover cleaning requirements.

The successful candidate will perform cleaning and reinstatement of Grade C and Grade C classified production areas, ensuring facilities and equipment are maintained in a state of control to support safe, compliant manufacture of sterile products on a 24/7 basis

Your Responsibilities will include:

• Perform routine and non-routine cleaning of Grade C rooms, corridors and support areas in accordance with approved SOPs, COSHH assessments and cleaning schedules.
• Prepare, label, handle and use detergents and disinfectants in line with validated procedures and safety requirements.
• Execute shutdown and reinstatement cleaning of Grade C areas (including ceilings, walls, floors, fixtures and fittings) to support planned maintenance and projects.
• Clean and reinstate material airlocks, change rooms and access routes to maintain segregation between unclassified, Grade D and Grade C areas.
• Handle waste and soiled materials from classified areas, including segregation, bagging, labelling, transfer and staging for removal in line with SOPs.
• Complete all required documentation (paper or electronic) in real time, including cleaning records, checklists and logbooks, ensuring data integrity and traceability.
• Escalate deviations, near misses, damaged infrastructure or visible contamination (e.g. leaks, residues, damage to finishes) to the First Line Leader and support investigations as required.
• Follow gowning, personal hygiene and personnel flow requirements for Grade C areas, including correct donning/doffing and use of PPE.
• Support environmental monitoring activities by maintaining access to sampling locations and cooperating with EM personnel (e.g. avoiding disturbance of freshly disinfected surfaces).
• Participate in audits, inspections and Gemba, demonstrating area standards and explaining cleaning routines and documentation to inspectors when requested.
• Work flexibly on a rotating 24/7 shift pattern (days/nights, weekends and bank holidays) to provide full coverage of Grade C area cleaning requirements.
• Contribute to continuous improvement of cleaning methods, tools and schedules (e.g. feedback on ergonomics, safety, effectiveness) and support change control implementation.

We are looking for candidates who have a can-do attitude with the willingness to learn new skills, as well as candidates who are flexible and have excellent communication skills.

Previous experience in a pharmaceutical or manufacturing role is desired but not essential as full training is provided.

As well as the above we are also looking for candidates who:

• Have prior experience in GMP, healthcare, cleanroom or facilities cleaning desirable.
• Have an understanding of basic GMP principles, or willingness to learn via training (e.g. behaviour and ways-of-working expectations in Grade C/D areas).
• Are comfortable working with cleaning agents, disinfectants and equipment (e.g. trolleys, mops, scrubber-dryers) following COSHH and manual-handling guidance.
• Are able to read and follow SOPs, complete records accurately and communicate clearly with the Production First Line Leader and operations teams.
• Are willing and able to meet physical demands (standing, reaching, lifting within limits, repetitive motion) while maintaining attention to detail.
