Job summary

Daniel Owen Ltd is seeking a mechanically minded estimator to support the estimating function for a busy contractor in Normanton. The role suits someone with a solid mechanical background, potentially moving from supervisory, scheduling or plumbing and heating into estimating.

You will produce cost estimates for gas, plumbing and heating works, price remedial works, review subcontractor quotations, and work with subcontractors and in‑house engineers.

Qualifications

• Strong mechanical background in plumbing, heating or gas works.
• Experience in estimating or transitioning from supervisory or scheduling roles.
• Excellent administrative and organisational skills.
• Proficient with Excel and internal systems.
• Willingness to price diverse works and coordinate with subcontractors.

Temporary, ongoing contract

We are currently looking for someone with a strong mechanical background to support the estimating function of a busy contractor based in Normanton.

Previous experience as a time-served Estimator is not essential. This could be an excellent opportunity for a Mechanical Supervisor, Scheduler or experienced plumbing and heating professional who understands site-based works and is looking to move into an estimating role.

The role will involve:

• Producing cost estimates for gas, plumbing and heating works
• Pricing installation, repair and maintenance remedial works
• Obtaining and reviewing quotations from subcontractors
• Working closely with subcontractors and in-house engineers
• Producing estimates for other minor works when required
• Using Excel and internal systems to prepare accurate quotations
• Supporting works across the Wakefield district

We are looking for someone with:

• A mechanical background, ideally within plumbing, heating or gas works
• Good knowledge of mechanical installation and repair works
• Relevant site, supervisory, scheduling or estimating experience
• Strong administrative and organisational skills
• Good working knowledge of ExcelConfidence using IT systems
• A dynamic, driven and adaptable approach
• The ability to price a variety of works as required

This is a temporary, ongoing position with no confirmed end date. There is potential for the contract to continue for up to 12 months, depending on workload and contract requirements.
