Job summary

YunExpress is seeking an experienced Ramp Agent to join the Ground Operations team at East Midlands Airport. The role focuses on safe cargo handling, loading/unloading, and working with GSE to support timely aircraft turnaround.

The ideal candidate will have 2–5 years in ramp/ground handling, be fluent in English, and able to pass a 5-year background check and DBS. This frontline position requires safety focus and teamwork in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• 2–5 years of relevant experience in ramp operations, ground handling, air cargo or similar airport operations.
• Hands-on experience with aircraft or air cargo.
• GSE trained with practical equipment handling.
• Strong awareness of ramp safety and procedures.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Legal right to work in the United Kingdom.
• Willing to clear a 5-year background and DBS check.
• Experience with cargo screening, X-ray or ETD is advantageous.
• Experience using warehousing systems (WMS) or cargo systems.

Responsibilities

• Support safe and efficient loading, unloading, transfer and handling of air cargo during flight operations.
• Carry out cargo build-up, breakdown, movement and handling per airline requirements.
• Operate Ground Support Equipment (GSE) safely and perform basic checks.
• Perform aviation security checks (X-ray, ETD) per procedures.
• Ensure screened cargo is correctly recorded, labelled and released only after security compliance.
• Assist inbound/outbound operations in a customs-controlled warehouse and update WMS as needed.
• Identify and report cargo discrepancies, documentation issues or security concerns.
• Maintain Health & Safety, Aviation Security and FOD control across ramp and warehouse areas.
• Support peak period operations to achieve flight and operational targets.
• Conduct clear shift handovers and communicate outstanding tasks.

Job description

We are looking for an experienced Ramp Agent to join our Ground Operations team at East Midlands Airport.

This is a hands‑on operational role supporting aircraft turnaround, air cargo handling, cargo security screening and warehouse operations. You will work closely with ramp, ground handling and warehouse teams to ensure cargo is handled safely, securely and on time.

Previous ramp, ground handling or air cargo operational experience is required for this position.

Key Responsibilities

• Support the safe and efficient loading, unloading, transfer and handling of air cargo during flight operations.
• Carry out cargo build‑up, breakdown, movement and handling activities in accordance with operational and airline requirements.
• Operate Ground Support Equipment (GSE) safely and complete basic equipment checks before and after use.
• Perform or support X‑ray screening, ETD testing and other required aviation security checks in line with CAA and company procedures.
• Ensure screened cargo is correctly recorded, labelled, protected and released only when all security requirements have been met.
• Support inbound and outbound operations within the customs‑controlled warehouse, including basic document checks, cargo status verification and WMS updates.
• Identify and report cargo discrepancies, documentation issues, security concerns, equipment defects or other operational exceptions.
• Maintain high standards of Health & Safety, Aviation Security and FOD control across ramp and warehouse areas.
• Support colleagues across ramp, warehouse and cargo operations during peak periods to ensure flight and operational targets are achieved.
• Complete clear shift handovers and communicate outstanding tasks or operational issues to the incoming team.
• Maintain clean and organised operational areas and ensure equipment and working tools are returned correctly after use.

What We're Looking For

• 2–5 years of relevant experience in ramp operations, ground handling, air cargo or a similar airport operational environment.
• Previous hands‑on experience working with aircraft or air cargo operations.
• GSE trained, with practical experience operating relevant ground support equipment.
• Good understanding of ramp safety and operational procedures.
• Fluent spoken and written English.
• Legal right to work in the United Kingdom.
• Willing and able to complete the required 5‑year background check and DBS check.
• Able to work effectively in a fast‑paced, time‑critical operational environment.
• Strong safety awareness and ability to follow SOPs and operational instructions accurately.
• Previous experience with cargo screening, X‑ray or ETD.
• Knowledge of CAA aviation security requirements.
• Experience working in a customs‑controlled or bonded warehouse environment.
• Experience using WMS, PDA or cargo operational systems.
• Previous air cargo, express logistics or e-commerce logistics experience.
