Job summary

Network Rail is seeking an experienced Project Engineer/Designated Project Engineer within Civil engineering to lead multi‑discipline design and construction activities. You will ensure compliance with CDM, regulatory standards and company procedures, while supervising design teams and contractors.

The role requires solid experience in risk assessment, QA, and delivering safe, cost effective projects. NR promotes flexible, hybrid working and a strong focus on safety and best practice across

Qualifications

• Relevant experience in Civil engineering, ideally with involvement in construction and design projects across multi discipline areas within the railway sector.
• Knowledge of quality assurance and independent assessment of work.
• CDM, risk assessment and engineering management competency.

Responsibilities

• Implement NR systems and procedures to maintain cost effective, high quality, safe and environmentally responsible design/construction activities.
• Engineer projects to standards and contracts ensuring compliance with Railway Group and NR standards.
• Manage all engineering activities to deliver affordable schemes on time, cost and quality.
• Utilise risk assessment and HAZOP techniques for allocated projects and manage environmental aspects.
• Monitor design consultants and contractors.
• Provide project management advice for construction, testing and commissioning; ensure CDM compliance.
• Ensure personnel for design/construction are competent within NR processes.
• Carry out reviews of Building & Civils design/construction and arrange audits of contractors’ safety, environment and quality.
• Act as Designated Project Engineer (DPE) for certain projects or portfolios.
• Deliver engineering assurance within a PACE governance framework; share best practice.
• Develop, maintain and foster professional relationships with key stakeholders within Southern's Capable Owner, SID partners and wider ecosystem.
• Demonstrate excellent communication skills and ability to operate at all levels.
