Job summary

Network Rail is seeking a curious and analytical Data Scientist to work within the Advanced Analytics team. You will analyse large datasets, develop prototypes using Python, R, C# or VBA, and build forecasting models for railway assets.

The role offers hybrid working and a strong emphasis on rigorous methodological communication. You will collaborate across engineering disciplines to shape investment and maintenance decisions, presenting clear results to stakeholders and contributing to safety

Qualifications

• PhD in numerate discipline or equivalent experience e.g. physics, applied mathematics, engineering, statistics and data science
• Experience of working in a peer reviewed environment
• Experience of working to demanding timescales

Responsibilities

• Analyse data to uncover insights and develop models that shape investment and maintenance decisions across the network
• Design and build mathematical models and document methodologies clearly for diverse stakeholders
• Communicate technical results effectively to stakeholders with varying modelling knowledge
• Collaborate with engineering specialists to understand railway asset performance and data signals
