Job summary

Based at Cadder Yard in Glasgow, Babcock is recruiting a Rail Track Assistant to join our Rail business on-site. This full-time, permanent role supports track renewal and maintenance to keep the railway network safe, reliable and operating to a high standard.

You’ll be part of an experienced operational team, delivering track renewals, following Safe Systems of Work, and assisting with tools and small plant.

At Babcock, we're working to create a safe and secure world, together. We're looking for a Rail Track Assistant to join our Rail business, based on site at Cadder Yard.

This is a hands on operational role supporting track renewal and maintenance activities, helping to ensure the railway network is maintained safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.

The role

As a Rail Track Assistant, you'll work as part of an experienced operational team delivering track renewal and maintenance works. You'll support daily site activities, follow safe systems of work, and contribute to keeping the rail network running reliably.

Day-to-day, you will:

  • Support the delivery of track renewal and maintenance work on site
  • Follow instructions from Supervisors and Senior Track Assistants
  • Use tools and small plant equipment safely and correctly
  • Carry out general site duties to support rail operations
  • Work in line with railway rules, regulations, and health & safety requirements.

This is a full time, permanent role, working 35 hours per week on a roster that includes days, nights, weekends, and shift working. Full details of shift patterns will be discussed at interview.

Essential experience of the Rail Track Assistant:
  • A strong team player with good communication skills
  • A safety focused mindset and willingness to follow procedures
  • Ability to take instruction and work effectively in an operational environment
  • Willingness to learn new skills and undertake training.
  • Ability to drive or have willingness to learn.

Previous rail experience is desirable but not essential - training will be provided.

Qualifications for the Rail Track Assistant:
