Job summary

Arup is seeking a Senior Consultant in Safety Risk and Reliability to lead safety assurance activities for rail projects. You will guide hazard analyses, safety case development, and risk management across infrastructure, signalling, and rolling stock, while coordinating with ISA/AsBo and clients on evolving technologies such as decarbonisation and digitalisation.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer with membership of a relevant professional institution.
• Strong experience leading safety and risk assessment programmes (qualitative & quantitative) and system safety engineering within rail.
• Understanding of safety assurance activities for Authorisation for Placing into Service and UK/European rail standards (ROGS, CSM RA, NTSNs, TSIs, EN 50126/50716/50129).
• Experience applying safety analysis techniques such as HAZID, HAZOP, FMECA, FTA and developing safety cases/justifications.
• Worked across multiple elements of the rail value chain (infrastructure, signalling, rolling stock, etc.).
• Experience working with ISA/AsBo and independent safety assessment processes.
• Fluent in Danish, Dutch and/or German (non-essential).

Responsibilities

• Lead delivery of defined safety assurance tasks or small projects, managing outputs to time, cost and quality.
• Deliver system safety activities including hazard identification and risk assessment (HAZID/HAZOP/FTA).
• Chair and facilitate safety workshops with clients, partners and technical specialists.
• Coordinate and implement technical safety and risk engineering activities, including safety case development and safety management systems.
• Support clients adopting new technologies and evolving rail programmes (decarbonisation, digitalisation, climate resilience).
• Collaborate with Independent Safety Assessors / AsBo to support safety assessment and assurance.
