Job summary

Rullion is seeking an experienced Modifications & Defects Technician to join our rolling stock engineering operation in Barton-under-Needwood, DE13. The role covers fleet modifications, fault diagnosis, defect rectification, inspections, testing and technical upgrades to sustain safety and reliability of the fleet.

The ideal candidate will have a Level 3 NVQ in Electrical Engineering, 3–5 years in rolling stock, strong fault-finding skills and experience with drawings, schematics and maintenance

Qualifications

• Level 3 NVQ or equivalent in Electrical Engineering.
• 3-5 years' experience in a rolling stock engineering environment.
• Proven experience in fault-finding and defect rectification on mechanical and electrical systems.
• Experience delivering vehicle modifications and engineering change programmes.
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics and manuals.
• Experience using diagnostic/condition monitoring equipment.
• Production or manufacturing environment experience.
• Familiarity with SES or similar production systems and MS Office.
• Strong communication, organisation and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and work to tight deadlines.
• Comfortable undertaking safety-critical work.

Responsibilities

• Carry out planned rolling stock modifications, engineering changes and technical upgrades.
• Install, remove, replace and commission rolling stock components and systems.
• Diagnose and rectify mechanical, electrical, pneumatic and control system faults.
• Investigate defects, identify root causes and complete rectification within required timescales.
• Carry out inspections, functional testing and commissioning before vehicles are released to service.
• Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, technical manuals and modification instructions.
• Support reliability and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Accurately complete work orders, vehicle records and maintenance documentation.
• Work closely with engineering, production and depot teams to resolve technical issues.
• Act as an Authorised Person where competent and appointed.
