Job summary

Ford & Stanley Select in Derby is seeking a mechanically-biased Project Engineer to join a specialist engineering business supporting the rail sector. This role combines project engineering, product support, engineering assessment activities and the management of return-to-service and repair activities.

The successful candidate will drive investigations into returned products, define repair scopes, coordinate suppliers and ensure technical documentation is maintained to a high standard.

Qualifications

• HNC or HND in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
• Mechanical background with practical electrical understanding.
• Experience in rail industry or rail supply chain.
• Experience in assessments, investigations and scoping work.
• Experience authoring procedures and technical documentation.
• Knowledge of maintenance, repair, overhaul or refurbishment.
• Experience working with suppliers or subcontractors.
• Strong fault-finding and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications.
• Able to work independently or in a small team.
• Experience with workshop/manufacturing maintenance.

Responsibilities

• Manage RMA activities from receipt to closure.
• Assess returned products, identify failure modes, determine repair/overhaul solutions.
• Define repair scopes, requirements and work packages for workshop execution.
• Liaise with customers, suppliers and internal stakeholders.
• Produce, review and maintain engineering procedures, work instructions and technical documentation.
• Support overhaul instructions and repair documentation.
• Coordinate tooling requirements and support workshop operations.
• Assist with engineering investigations, root cause analysis and corrective actions.
• Support engineering change implementation and configuration management activities.
• Work closely with procurement and supply chain teams to source components and support repair activities.
• Ensure all activities comply with relevant quality, safety and rail industry requirements.
• Provide technical support across engineering, operations and customer-facing activities.
