Job summary

Porterbrook is hiring an Assistant Project Manager to join the Major Projects function. The role focuses on safe operation of Porterbrook-owned rolling stock, delivering complex and high-value projects, and ensuring governance and risk management across supplier and customer interfaces in a commercial environment.

The successful candidate will work across Derby, London and the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre, travel to depots and customer sites, and contribute to plans, budgets and schedules

Qualifications

• Railway engineering knowledge preferable.
• Degree, HNC or equivalent in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or working towards a Degree or equivalent qualification.
• Knowledge of project management, ideally in rolling stock.
• Knowledge of railway industry rolling stock, organisation and rail stakeholders.
• Basic knowledge of contractual obligations and operating lease agreements.
• Awareness of safety cases, certification issues, railway risks and group standards.

Responsibilities

• Manage projects to deliver time, cost and quality objectives.
• Undertake regular project reviews and forecast costs vs. budget.
• Share project information with the business and keep logistics updated with schedules.
• Maintain Project Execution Plans and related documentation per Porterbrook procedures.
• Attend weekly reviews and monthly contract reviews and issue timely minutes.
• Manage contract variations to ensure value for money for the business.
• Travel to supplier depots and customer sites as needed for delivery.
• Maintain and review risk logs with the Project Manager.
