Job summary

Network Rail in the UK is seeking a post‑contract commercial specialist to provide specialist commercial advice within the project delivery teams, mitigating risks and supporting pre‑contract activity.

You will monitor cost reporting, manage valuations and payments, lead change control, and provide proactive guidance to budget holders. A degree in a related subject and relevant railway/contract experience are highly desirable.

Qualifications

• Demonstrable experience in commercially managing investment projects.
• Relevant experience in contracts, procurement or commercial governance.
• Good understanding of railway/construction industry forms of contract.
• Strong negotiation and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Commitment to safety and compliance in project delivery.

Responsibilities

• Support monitoring of breaches of corporate governance within scope.
• Manage cost reporting across allocated accounts: forecast, final cost, cost of work done, gross billing, current contract value.
• Monitor and report on all commercial aspects, proposing mitigations.
• Influence decision making from a commercial perspective during site activities and progress meetings.
• Value and certify contractor applications; challenge cost elements and align with progress.
• Provide guidance on changes; document approvals and delegated authority levels.
• Prepare applications for payment/invoices under funding agreements with supporting docs.
• Identify and advise on commercial risk/claims events.
• Provide management information to support decisions; issue contractual notices and maintain records.
• Undertake final accounts and close-out reconciliation; manage multi-year framework accounts.
• Support estimating through cost analysis and feedback; assist pre/post contract procurement.
• Advise on account scope; participate in price negotiations and risk/value workshops.
