Job summary

Porterbrook is seeking an exceptional Rail Operations Manager to join the Long Marston Operations Team. You will manage the rail operations team, plan rosters, ensure safety and compliance, and liaise with stakeholders to deliver operations plans daily.

You will work closely with the Operations Safety & Standards Manager to implement FRMS, review risk assessments, and drive performance KPIs across depots and yards. A strong leadership background in rail operations is essential.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of railway operations (Mainline & Depot).
• Line management experience of rail operations teams (drivers/shunters).
• Familiar with Railway Rule Book and health & safety legislation.

Responsibilities

• Manage the LM RIC rail operations team to safely deliver rail operations plans.
• Develop rosters ensuring sufficient resources to deliver plans.
• Lead planning of all rail operations at LM RIC; prioritise, visualise and communicate daily.
• Chair daily/weekly rail operations planning meetings.
• Ensure competence through training with Operations Trainer & Assessor.
• Support fatigue risk management system implementation with SAFETY team.
• Lead audits and drive KPI suite for performance monitoring.
• Oversee capacity planning across yards and sidings.
• Be main contact for external customers and suppliers.
• Provide coaching to the Operations Team Leader for cover during absences.
