Job summary

Porterbrook is seeking an exceptional Operations Planner to join the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre team. You will develop train movement plans to optimise safe delivery of all rail operations, balancing resources, and communicating plans to internal and external parties.

You will attend weekly planning meetings, ensure no conflicts between test and non-test track movements, and produce daily driver/shunter schedules.

Qualifications

• A level or equivalent experience is required.
• Knowledge of a Train Planning system and TRUST is desirable.
• Experience collaborating with a wide range of stakeholders is essential.
• Experience in planning and solving problems to achieve objectives is expected.

Responsibilities

• Develop train movements plans to optimise safe delivery of rail operations at the Long Marston Rail Innovation Centre.
• Support resource allocation, balancing train driving, shunting, and training requirements.
• Communicate train movements plans to internal & external parties to align priorities and minimise short notice requests.
• Attend weekly planning meetings to create plans and confirm priorities are aligned.
• Ensure no conflicts between test track and non-test track movements.
• Produce daily work schedules for drivers and shunters.
• Monitor fatigue risk profiles and flag thresholds to management.
• Liaise with Train Operators and Network Rail to include mainline timings in plans.
• Maintain up-to-date site stabling plans to model future capacity.
• Coordinate with other Porterbrook departments for access permissions.
• Monitor real-time service delivery and report delays impacting plan.
• Identify track/restriction details on the planning board and communicate to stakeholders.
• Develop KPIs to monitor train service delivery.
• Assist with additional operations team activities as required.
