Job summary

Colas Rail UK is recruiting Mobile Maintenance Train (MMT) Fitters to join a team maintaining, inspecting and repairing a fleet of MMTs across the UK. No rail experience is required, as full training is provided, with a clear progression path from Trainee to Maintainer, Fitter and Technician.

The role involves operating the A50 and hoist, completing scheduled maintenance, and ensuring trains remain safe and reliable. You will work on a five-week, 40-hour roster including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• Level 3 qualification in mechanical or engineering discipline.
• Full UK Driving Licence.
• Must live within an hour commute of Romford, Basingstoke, Horsham or Retford.
• Able to work weekends, bank holidays and a shift pattern including days/nights.

Responsibilities

• Follow maintenance schedules to ensure fleet reliability.
• Conduct preventative servicing, inspections and mechanical repairs.
• Diagnose and rectify faults on diesel engines, hydraulics, pneumatics and mechanical drives; basic electrical fault finding.
• Prepare trains for overnight operation; provide on-train engineering support as required.
• Complete depot-based servicing and accurate maintenance records.
• Use onboard diagnostics and IT systems (Windows-based).

Education

Level 3 qualification in mechanical or engineering discipline
