Job summary

Colas Rail UK is hiring Mobile Maintenance Train (MMT) Fitters in the UK, including the Horsham area. Full training is provided; prior rail experience is not required.

You will maintain and repair MMT trains, following a structured career progression from Trainee to Technician, with a roster including days, nights and weekends. The role emphasizes safety, documentation, and teamwork, with a company van, tools, PPE, and comprehensive benefits provided.

Qualifications

• Must have a Level 3 qualification in mechanical or engineering.
• Must hold a Full UK Driving Licence.
• Be able to commute within an hour of Romford, Basingstoke, Horsham or Retford.
• Willingness to work weekends, bank holidays, and a shift-based roster.
• Computer literacy (Microsoft Windows) is required.
• DBS screening and a medical assessment will be part of onboarding.

Responsibilities

• Follow maintenance schedules to ensure fleet reliability and compliance.
• Conduct preventative servicing, inspections and mechanical repairs on MMTs.
• Diagnose and rectify faults on diesel engines, hydraulic and mechanical drive systems; basic electrical fault finding.
• Prepare trains for overnight operation and provide on-train engineering support as required.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and supporting documentation.
