Job summary

Heavy Haul Rail Limited is seeking a skilled Mechanical & Electrical Fitter at our Mendip Vehicle Maintenance Facilities (Merehead & Whatley) to service and repair locomotives to high engineering standards.

You will work on Class 59 and Class 66 locomotives as part of a safety‑focused team, with a 24/7 shift roster and ongoing training to support the company’s growth and commitment to reliability across the UK rail network.

Qualifications

• Apprentice trained or time-served engineer.
• Level 3 Engineering qualification (or equivalent).
• Mechanical and/or electrical maintenance experience.
• Strong commitment to safe working practices.
• Good organisational and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure.
• Competent IT skills including Microsoft Office.
• Flexible approach to working a 24/7 shift roster.

Responsibilities

• Servicing, maintaining, fault-finding and repairing locomotives.
• Working to approved maintenance plans and engineering standards.
• Ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and to a high standard.
• Completing maintenance and repair documentation accurately.
• Contributing to a safe, clean and effective depot environment.
• Supporting team performance and operational reliability.
