Job summary

Carrington West is recruiting an Assistant Electrical Engineer and an Electrical Engineer to join our established M&E engineering practice. You will work on LV electrical designs across rail infrastructure projects including stations, depots, signalling power and points heating, with a clear path to develop your design capability.

Experience with LV fundamentals is valued; previous rail exposure is helpful but not essential.

Qualifications

Around 2 to 3 years' relevant experience for Assistant Engineer level, or 3 to 5 years for Engineer level.
Good knowledge of LV electrical systems.
Working knowledge of BS 7671.
Understanding of electrical inspection and testing.
Practical electrical design knowledge beyond drawing interpretation.
Understanding of voltage drop, cable sizing, protection and earthing.
Strong communication and problem-solving skills.
Interest in progressing toward professional registration.
Experience with Trimble, Dialux or ETAP is beneficial but not essential.

Responsibilities

Supporting and delivering LV electrical designs across rail infrastructure projects.
Working across stations, depots, signalling power, points heating and associated M&E systems.
Undertaking electrical calculations including voltage drop and cable sizing.
Applying BS 7671 and relevant electrical standards to designs.
Supporting inspection, testing and assessment of existing installations.
Producing and reviewing calculations, drawings and technical documentation.
Identifying practical design issues and proposing technically appropriate solutions.
Collaborating with experienced engineers across multidisciplinary project teams.
Supporting projects from early design through to detailed delivery.
