Qualifications

Purpose of the Role

Prepare the machine, assess the work requirement and ensure the plan is achieved to meet the required specification whilst maintaining all health, safety and environmental safeguards. Work to the VMI and operational manual.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate or maintain the machine safely and effectively, as instructed by the Grinding or Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Perform 2nd‑man / fire‑watch duties during grinding operations.
  • Report any machine defects to the Grinding or Maintenance Supervisor, where appropriate.
  • Collate the data output from the machine where applicable.
  • Work safely and effectively in accordance with Colas Rail Services Operations procedures.
  • Assistance as required.
  • Help maintain quality systems, machine safety packs and stabling database by continually monitoring, reviewing and recommending updates.
  • Undertake any other duties if assessed as competent to do so.
  • Carry out COSS duties as and when required.
  • Perform daily maintenance duties to include chipping and blowing.
  • Complete daily Work Return Forms.
  • Adapt to operational requirements of the organisation, performing other reasonable duties as required from time to time.
Person Specification
  • Recognised formal apprenticeship in Mechanical / Electrical engineering with core competencies in Foundation Course.
  • Experience of machine setup and pack‑away for operation, grinding, and maintenance.
  • Driving licence.
  • PTS fire training.
  • Emergency first aid.
  • Depot / yard inductions.
  • Basic laser safety.
  • COSS training.
