Job summary

SYSTRA in Birmingham is seeking a Cost Engineer to join our growing engineering team. The role focuses on cost management for High Speed Rail infrastructure and related projects in the UK and overseas, working hybrid in Birmingham.

You will integrate with management, designers and contract partners, ensure accurate cost reporting, and support budget holders across disciplines to capture true project costs. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Experience in cost engineering, project controls, or commercial management within rail/transport sectors.
• Strong knowledge of cost management processes and earned value principles.
• Proficiency in cost management software and Excel; Primavera P6/IFS experience advantageous.

Responsibilities

• Apply cost management and Earned Value techniques.
• Analyse weekly cost reporting for accuracy and forecast.
• Produce timely actual and forecast cost reports and month-end accruals.
• Control and analyse scope deviations via change management.
• Collaborate with budget holders across disciplines to capture costs.
• Support inter-company trading transactions and regional performance.
• Attend progress meetings and compile data for project teams.
