Job summary

WSP is seeking a Human Factors Engineer to provide Rail Human Factors/ Ergonomics support to the People Centred Design elements of WSP project work, collaborating with the systems engineering, integration and assurance teams.

You’ll contribute to Specialist Ergonomic Assessments (Task Analysis, Situation Awareness, Workload), maintenance concepts and design for inclusion across multiple rail projects for HS2, Network Rail Scotland and Crossrail, with opportunities to lead a team and progress

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.
• Experience of applying ergonomics techniques and processes in the rail industry.
• Knowledge of the railway industry, railway infrastructure and operational roles.
• Previous Human Factors Experience.
• Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (preferably working towards Chartership).
• Experience of managing and growing a team.

Responsibilities

• Undertaking usability evaluations in line with Human Factors standards for equipment/ layout/ HMIs to demonstrate systems support operators to perform tasks in an efficient manner.
• Conducting Project Ergonomics Surveys including observing current railway signalling tasks, level crossing control, measuring operational workload, impact assessments, Training Needs Analysis and analysing and presenting data to be fed into design activities and presented to clients.
• Producing the Concept of Operations to support new/ modified station/ depot design, and conducting Access & Maintenance assessments, room layout & work station design including Control room design.
• Working with project teams to assess Accessibility and Design for Inclusion.
• Eliciting Ergonomics requirements and working with project teams to deliver user needs.
