Job summary

WSP in the UK & Ireland is looking for a Human Factors Engineer to support the People Centred Design elements of rail projects. You'll conduct usability evaluations, Project Ergonomics Surveys and accessibility assessments while collaborating with project teams.

The ideal candidate should have a degree in a relevant discipline, experience in the rail industry, and previous Human Factors experience. Benefits include a hybrid working policy, health support, and development opportunities.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in relevant discipline or equivalent experience.
• Experience applying ergonomics techniques in the rail industry.
• Knowledge of railway infrastructure and operational roles.
• Previous Human Factors Experience required.
• Membership in Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors preferred.
• Experience managing a team is beneficial.

Responsibilities

• Undertake usability evaluations in line with Human Factors standards for equipment, layout, and HMIs to demonstrate systems support operators to perform tasks efficiently.
• Conduct Project Ergonomics Surveys including observing current railway signalling tasks, level crossing control, measuring operational workload, impact assessments, Training Needs Analysis and analyzing and presenting data to be fed into design activities and presented to clients.
• Produce the Concept of Operations to support new or modified station/depot design, and conduct Access & Maintenance assessments, room layout & workstation design including Control room design.
• Work with project teams to assess Accessibility and Design for Inclusion.
• Elicit Ergonomics requirements and work with project teams to deliver user needs.

Team Overview

As a Human Factors Engineer you will work with the systems engineering, integration and assurance team, providing Rail Human Factors / Ergonomics support to the People Centred Design elements of WSP project work. The role reports to the Technical Lead for People Centred Design.

Qualifications

• Degree or equivalent in a relevant discipline or able to demonstrate an equivalent level of experience.
• Experience applying ergonomics techniques and processes in the rail industry.
• Knowledge of the railway industry, railway infrastructure and operational roles.
• Previous Human Factors Experience.
• Member of the Chartered Institute of Ergonomics and Human Factors (preferably working towards Chartership).
• Experience managing and growing a team.
