Rail Engineering Advanced Technician Apprentice

Ramboll invites you to apply for a Rail Engineering Advanced Technician Apprenticeship in our Rail Systems Team, assisting in delivering Rail Systems design services across various projects. You will receive full support to achieve a Level 4 qualification (Rail Engineering), typically on a day release basis, providing a solid foundation for a successful career.

The Apprenticeship Programme Duration, Cost, and Qualifications

The academic course lasts 4 years. The cost is covered by Ramboll through the Apprenticeship Levy.

Qualifications to be awarded
  • Level 4 Rail Engineering Apprenticeship
  • Upon completion, eligible for registration as an Engineering Technician by relevant Professional Engineering Institutions.

Potential career progression includes continuing as a Technician or further education through apprenticeships.

Ramboll plans to deliver this Apprenticeship with Elev8 Training. You will work four days a week and study one day a week through lectures, labs, tutorials, workshops, and online activities, with some variation upon enrollment.

At the end of the apprenticeship, you will complete an End Point Assessment to demonstrate your knowledge, skills, and behaviors learned.

You will join our Rail Systems department

Based in Frome, you will be part of a dynamic team working with industry experts on ground and related structures, applying cutting-edge technology. You will receive on-the-job training and mentorship from experienced professionals.

Your key tasks and responsibilities will include:
  • Applying scientific, technical, and engineering principles to railway signalling design, maintenance, and construction globally
  • Understanding safe working practices, regulations, and risk management
  • Designing engineering solutions considering failure modes and causes
  • Managing projects using project management principles
  • Understanding the commercial aspects of the railway industry
  • Gaining knowledge of railway systems and roles
  • Working towards gaining an IRSE Signalling Designer’s licence with mentorship
  • Performing complex analysis with computer modelling
  • Translating engineering concepts into presentations, reports, and drawings
  • Recognizing third-party requirements and operational interfaces
  • Identifying and mitigating health & safety, design, sustainability, and commercial risks
  • Monitoring design implementation throughout the project lifecycle
Your starting point for growth

We will support your development from day one. Ideally, you will have:

  • Achieved or be on track for 3 A Levels including Maths at grade C or higher
  • 5 GCSEs including Maths and English at Grade 4 (C) or higher
  • A keen interest in the Built Environment
  • A complete application

  • CAD knowledge or experience (desirable but not essential)
