Job summary

Ford & Stanley Group in Burton upon Trent is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to own electrical design across locomotive projects. You will develop schematics, design control systems and specify components, working with mechanical, manufacturing and project teams to deliver reliable electrical solutions.

The role offers a £40,000–£50,000 salary in a site-based, full-time capacity. Key activities include testing, commissioning and continuous improvement, with opportunities to influence

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrable experience in electrical design within locomotives, rail, transportation equipment or a related engineering sector.
  • Strong proficiency using Electrical CAD software such as AutoCAD Electrical, EPLAN or similar design packages.
  • Good understanding of electrical systems, control systems, PLCs and associated industry standards.
  • Experience integrating electrical systems into complex products or machinery.
  • Strong analytical and fault-finding skills with the ability to develop practical engineering solutions.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities, balance workloads and deliver projects to agreed deadlines.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across multidisciplinary engineering and operational teams.
  • High attention to detail with a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of engineering quality and safety.
  • A proactive engineer who enjoys improving products, processes and engineering standards.

Responsibilities

  • Develop electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and control system layouts in line with project requirements and standards.
  • Design and specify electrical components, control panels and associated systems for seamless integration with locomotive platforms.
  • Produce and maintain electrical drawings, bills of materials, specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Collaborate with Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing, Systems and Project teams to deliver practical engineering solutions.
  • Support development, testing, commissioning and validation of electrical systems.
  • Investigate and resolve electrical design issues identified during manufacturing, testing or field service activities.
  • Contribute to engineering improvements and standardisation initiatives.
  • Support project planning and provide reporting on technical progress.
