Job summary

Northern is seeking a Handyperson/Cleaner for their Train Care Centre in the UK. The role is on site, 35 hours per week, with a salary of £24,558.00 per annum.

You will keep depots safe, presentable and ready for action, supporting train cleaning activities and outdoor maintenance to ensure trains leave the depot in good condition. You'll follow instructions, work outdoors in all weather, and gain full training.

Qualifications

• Must be safety-conscious and follow instructions.
• No previous experience required; full training provided.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
• Flexibility to work weekends.

Responsibilities

• Carrying out external cleaning of Northern trains within the Train Care Centre, meeting the standards our customers and stakeholders expect.
• Using high-pressure cleaning equipment to clean train components safely and effectively.
• Supporting skilled tradespeople with basic maintenance activities on trains when needed.
• Maintaining depot grounds, including tidying walkways, cutting grass, trimming vegetation, and general outdoor upkeep.
• Supporting depot operations through tasks such as fuelling, tanking, and CET duties.
• Working closely with colleagues to follow instructions, meet shared goals, and keep standards consistently high.
