Job summary

Northern is recruiting for an Engineering Technician and Depot Driver role based on site. The position offers a salary of £52,031 per year, with 75% of the full salary during training. Hours are 35 per week and it is a on-site role.

Training starts with classroom learning before practical depot training, delivering both engineering and depot driving skills. You will maintain trains to high standards, diagnose faults, and drive them safely around the depot to keep maintenance running smoothly.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 in Engineering with hands-on experience of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Confidence diagnosing faults and solving technical problems in a fast-paced environment.
• Commitment to complete train driver training and maintain safety standards.

Responsibilities

• Carry out maintenance, servicing, inspections and fault finding to keep trains safe and ready for service.
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults and work with colleagues to resolve them.
• Prepare trains for daily service through inspections, checks and planned maintenance.
• Drive and position trains safely around the depot to support maintenance activities.
• Follow engineering standards, safe systems of work and depot procedures at all times.
• Help maintain a clean, organized and safe working environment.
• Work a shift pattern that includes nights, weekends and bank holidays.
