Job summary

AmcoGiffen in Barnsley, South Yorkshire, is seeking an experienced Buyer to join our central procurement team. You'll support frameworks, contracts, and supplier relationships across rail, civil engineering, and construction projects.

The role covers sourcing, negotiation, strategic procurement, supplier engagement, and oversight. You will mentor junior colleagues and help drive cost efficiencies while ensuring compliance with company procedures.

Qualifications

• Proven purchasing experience within Rail/Civil Engineering environments.
• Strong negotiation skills to secure best agreements and cost efficiencies.
• Analytical thinking to assess supplier performance and inform strategy.
• Excellent communication and organizational abilities for stakeholder management.
• CIPS qualification or demonstrable compensatory experience.
• Adaptability and leadership to mentor junior staff in a fast-paced team.

Responsibilities

• Sourcing & Negotiation: review requisitions, negotiate contracts, place orders per procedures.
• Strategic Procurement: support Frameworks, Trading Agreements, and cost-saving initiatives.
• Supplier Engagement: conduct meetings, gather feedback, maintain supplier performance reviews.
• Process Improvement: mentor assistants, handle amendments and invoice queries.
• Compliance & Oversight: authorise orders within delegated limits and enforce best practices.
• Analysis & Reporting: monitor supplier performance and provide procurement insights.
• Site & Contract Support: visit sites and review subcontract orders and vendor assessments.
