Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is offering an Apprentice Train Driver (Level 3) programme based in Effingham. You will learn to safely prepare, operate and drive MPVs while gaining industry-recognised qualifications, mentored by experienced drivers and supported by a dedicated early careers community.

The role starts with a structured apprenticeship combining classroom study, practical training and on-the-job experience, with a permanent contract from day one and progression opportunities.

Qualifications

• 5 GCSEs or equivalent at passing grades.
• Structured apprenticeship combining classroom learning and on-the-job training.

Responsibilities

• Carry out pre-service safety checks and prepare trains for service.
• Monitor train performance and respond to operational situations.
• Maintain records and progress toward authorised Train Driver status.
• Work with signallers, control teams and operational colleagues.
• Identify, report and respond to faults or issues following procedures.
