Job Description:

Job overview

We are seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced Radiotherapy Electronics Engineer to participate in delivering a high-quality maintenance & repair service to the Radiotherapy Service, based at Charing Cross Hospital and Hammersmith Hospital. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team of highly experienced engineers. You will be educated to B.Sc. degree level or equivalent in electronics/electrical engineering, with extensive experience working with radiotherapy linear accelerators.

Linacs are highly complex patient-critical systems, and our expert engineering team provides all maintenance and repairs, with no external manufacturer contracts. You will be working in a dynamic environment with diverse challenges and learning opportunities.

The department has fully equipped electronics and mechanical workshops for on-site repairs and development of bespoke projects, and offers a range of radiotherapy scientific and technical services, including 3D printing and a Clinical Scientific Computing Group. Major equipment includes 5 Varian TB linacs, a radiotherapy CT, a Flexitron unit, and an X-Strahl unit.

Applicants with less experience may be considered for a lower-level position.

Main duties of the job

  • Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance, servicing, and repair of complex, patient-critical radiotherapy equipment safely, efficiently, and effectively with minimal downtime.
  • Receive in-service education and training from the team of electronic engineers and other providers.
  • Move sites as required to carry out supervised work on major treatment equipment.
  • Perform all work safely and professionally to ensure safety of patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Work under supervision until competencies are signed off by a senior team member.

Working for our organisation
